[Match Analysis]

Aston Villa
(home) will encounter Leeds (away) at home, Villa Park.

After some clumsy results, Villa’s former manager Steven Gerrard got sacked. New manager Unai Emery joined the club and has created new hopes, the highlight being its Two-neil victory against Tottenham two weeks ago. Now ranked at 11th place(6W 4D 8L), the team seems to have crawled out of the relegation zone. Their next milestone would be winning the last ticket for a continental competition, in which Emery specializes. Unai Emery is famous for improvising, seen by many as the best in Europe for customizing tactics for every opponent he faces (need to note that Massimiliano Allegri, manager of Juventus, is also famous on this turf). This creates a good deal of advantage in tournaments like UEL or UECL, where the two managers have proven themselves time and again. But this isn’t always good point for the teams, because the flip side of the coin is Emery’s team lacking a main tactical identity. It’ll be interesting to watch whether Aston Villa’s customization can bring them three points tonight. Aston Villa’s injury list however doesn’t looks so good. Four are injured for sure — Diego Carlos, Mcginn, Augustinsson, Steer is injured. Cash is doubtful; he’ll be able to play by 50% chance, and Moreno will be included in the squad for about 50% chance. Leander Dendoncker will not be able to play this game due to being suspended after being sent off.

Leeds led by Jesse Marsch is now placed in the 14th place (4W-5D-8L). Current position looks sort of solid for Leeds, but they are not without problems. Perhaps the biggest concern now is their defense, which has virtually stopped functioning — they’ve given up 31 goals in the last 17 games. Everyone except Rasmus Kristensen isn’t showing much promise, but left-back issue stands out. Junior Firpo, who previously played for Barcelona (can you believe it?), have been injured for a long time, and this ended up in Pascal Struijk, originally a center DF, to play for left back. The good news it that Leeds is finalizing the deal with Maximilian Wöber, who can play well as a left back. Jesse Marsch usually uses the formation that looks half 4-2-2-2 and half 4-2-3-1. He orders his players to press hard — For every pair of midfielders, one stays within his zone, while the other gives pressure with other forwards. The problem is naturally burnt-out MFs. Also, the space between midfielders and forwards are vast due to their attacking position where they usually starts from the flank of the pitch. Even injury list doesn’t look so favorable for Leeds. Summerville, Sinisterra, Gray, Dallas will not be available. Forshaw looks doubtful for this game, but Bamford will be able to play for this game.

One additional note: before World Cup, Aston Villa won against Man Utd at home, and also earned a draw against Man City too. The team also has better scores while playing home. AI predicts that Aston Villa has a higher chance of winning (AI Prediction: Aston Villa 54% vs Leeds ****22%).

For BetBuilder picks, first I’d go with under 2.5 total goals (1.95). Ollie Watkins always leads his way to opponent’s goal post, so I’d like to go for making 1 or more Shots on Target (1.33). Also, expecting Emiliano Buendia to score or assist (1.4) looks reasonable too. Finally, my sense says that both team will score (1.66).

AI Prediction: Aston Villa 54% vs Leeds 22% ****

AI verdict: Bet 45$ (or 4.5% of bankroll) on Aston Villa Win @1.93 (??- Moderately recommended)
